How is it Grand Final weekend already?!

Unlike Murphy, I'm not sleeping through this year, but 2026 is going a bit quick.
Mr A and his dad, The Husband, arrived back this morning from their week in Japan. While it was nice to have things stay where I'd put them in the house, it was very quiet without them. They're both full of stories about what they saw and ate, ramen mostly.
Like most of Australia, we're going to be watching the AFLM Grand Final this afternoon, I'm hoping Fremantle win. I'll leave it to Mick Malthouse to explain why.
I'm sorry I've been MIA for a while. The past year or so was truly awful and it's taken all my resources to manage my mental health. However, the past few months I've been back at my desk, so here I am back in your inboxes and wanted to share some things that have happened.
Firstly, and most importantly, we finally have Dad's death certificate. The sad-min is finally, finally done. It took 549 days for the final piece of paperwork to arrive from the UK.
In May, Mum and I went on The Ghan. Travelling from Adelaide to Darwin, she booked the trip she and Dad watched on the slow-train and wanted to do.
It was beautiful, and took me to the NT for the first time. The sunrise at Marla (my favourite photo is below) on Yankunytjatjara and Antakirinja Matu-Isingari land; and the boat trip on Nitmiluk's first gorge on Jawoyn land, (again, my favourite photo below) were stunning.

What is next to look forward to?

Well for me, this new iteration and edition of my newsletter, The Fourth Leaf, has been sat waiting in draft form for so long it's ridiculous. I was pushing old blog posts to the website to get it going, but I got waylaid by having to set up a virtual assistant business by accident.
Consequently I'm aware that my Instagram feed has mostly been a lot of quality cat content, while my Threads feed was pushing my railing against the world to my Insta stories 🫢
So I'm here to say hello, thank you for your patience, (again) and to reintroduce myself to you in your inbox.
One of the reasons why I'm writing today is to share that there are only a few of the Christmas Journals left at $15. When I've sold 100 of them, it's going back up to $25.
It's not a high pressure, aesthetic planner you're afraid to write in. With 10 chapters to help you tackle different areas week-by-week, or for you to dip in and out when you need to. There are no deadlines, or rigid dates so you don't feel guilty for skipping or missing them when life gets lifey.
Head over to the shop and I'll see you next week.

Finally, a holiday framework built for neurodivergent minds.

Let's be honest, with ADHD, traditional planners feel like a performance review we're already failing. When we miss a day, we feel awful, freak out and fall off the planning wagon.
The Defiant Daughters Half-Ar$ed Christmas Journal contains no judgment, no rigid expectations, and absolutely zero shame. Built on real-world coping frameworks; as in - I’ve lived them, used them, coached them and trained these frameworks to multitudes of people. The journal acts as your temporary working memory so you can pace yourself and actually enjoy the festive season.

Overwhelm Is Not Laziness

One of the most common misconceptions about ADHD is that we’re lazy; that we can't be bothered; or when we switch off when things get hard, we'll get "Why don't you just try?" This perception, combined with the merest hint of inconsistency in our behaviour, is what is often noticed at work. We’re told we simply need to try harder, …

Running on Empty

Woman lying wide awake in bed
This is a sort-of-follow-up, either that or companion piece, to my post from earlier this week, Building A Life You Don't Want To Escape From. We were talking about our general weariness: That we’re so fried by the evening, we’re not actually engaging with anything. Instead we’re all doom-scrolling while watching streaming services, trying to calm our overstimulated nervous systems. …

Building a Life You Don’t Want to Escape From

For years, I lived my life burning candles at both ends. The patriachal, capitalist society norms of 'busy, busy, busy' is so ingrained in us that we're shamed when we slow and relax; or heaven forbid, sit down with nothing to do. Don’t believe me? What about the gadgets available to buy to simply keep your Teams status active and …

Masking Your ADHD: The Exhaustion Your Acquaintances Don’t See

Smiling girl, white background in superhero pose with yellow cape and red facemask
If you live with ADHD, or you're thinking that you ought to get tested, you’ve probably become an expert at one thing without even knowing it - masking. Masking is a self-preservation tool and the art (I use that word loosely) of hiding your ADHD traits so you can appear 'neurotypical' enough to blend in, cope and avoid judgment. On …

I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land I live and work on, the Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung People, and recognise their continuing connection to the land and waterways. I also pay my respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging. I further extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
Sovereignty was never ceded, always was and always will be, Aboriginal land.
